This advertisement is for a Correctional Counselor I position.  Located at the California Institution for Women in Corona, San Bernardino.

This is a peace officer classification, if you have not taken an exam, you must be a peace officer with CDCR to apply.

Under the direction of a captain and under the direct supervision of the Correctional Counselor II (CCII), the Correctional Counselor I (CCI) is responsible for the on-going processing of IP casework. The responsibilities of the CCI include but are not limited to interviewing IPs, preparing for, and attending Initial, Annual, and Program Reviews at Unit and Institutional Classification Hearings, preparing various reports, maintenance of a caseload, filling out departmental and miscellaneous forms, utilizing various departmental computer systems, and working with the public and staff from other governmental agencies.

Non Bargaining Unit 6 candidates will need to pass the peace officer background prior to appointment.  This process can take up to 6 months or longer.

Working Conditions

This is a Correctional Institution open 24 hours/7days a week, all positions will be office centered.

This is a correctional facility; you will come in contact with incarcerate persons.

Special Requirements

Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. If it is determined an applicant does not meet the Minimum Qualifications, the candidate will be withheld from the eligibility list, rendering them inactive and ineligible to be hired for the position. Candidates who have been withheld may file an appeal with the State Personnel Board.

Candidates new to CDCR are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.
